Acci Baba, visual artist. Baba was born in 1977 in Kamakura, Japan. He has been practicing traditional calligraphy since childhood, and credits his mother as an important influence on him in this ancient art form. At the age of 17, Baba began to expand on those traditions by utilizing different media forms. Since then, his creative impulse has explored a myriad of possibilities, ultimately resulting in a diverse array of visual artworks in mediums such as animation, short films, music videos, television commercials, visual art installations for contemporary performances, and in paintings. Baba's artistic themes reflect an interest in "reassembling time" or "restructuring of tradition" influenced by Asian culture. Figures are usually based on Buddhist teachings or Eastern philosophy. Baba has steadily been expanding his overseas activities since the millennium, and his visual artworks have now been introduced internationally. His work has been featured in the LA Film Festival (2004), Holland Animation Film Festival (2004), Edinburgh International Film Festival (2007), Resfest 10, and 13th Japan Media Arts Festival. Additionally, Baba has relocated his creative environment to Berlin, Germany, where he has been working since 2007.
